Marine Engineering Officers
Prof. Amitava Banerjee, Special Advisor - Academic
A distinguished alumnus of DMET with an Extra First Class Certificate of Competency and a post graduate degree from the World Maritime University, Sweden. Mr. Banerjee held the position of Chief Surveyor and Ex-officio Chief Examiner of Engineers with the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. He is a leading policy maker cum academician and represented India for more than 10 years as Head of various delegations to the IMO.
Capt. H. Subramaniam, Principal Consultant - Nautical Studies
Holds Extra Master (UK) Certificate and has over 50 years’ experience in maritime training including command of TS Rajendra, TS Chanakya and Principal of LBS College in Mumbai. Has served as Chief Examiner of Extra Masters in India and is the author of the internationally famous Nutshell Series of eight books on the operation of merchant ships.
Dr. Swapan Das Sharma, Dean of Maritime Studies
A renowned educator in the field of maritime studies. Pioneered e Learning courses for the newage seafarers.
Founding Director of Singapore Maritime Academy and American Digital University.
Capt. K. Vivekanand, Head - Nautical Studies
A graduate of T S Dufferin, the class of 1964, he is an academician at the core and held the position of Director of AMET University for 10 years followed by a similar period with the Vels University as the Pro Vice Chancellor. He is one of the pioneers in the field of eLearning for the maritime professionals in India. At ADU, he will conduct Live Classrooms for the Nautical Officers and prepare them for the CoC. He will focus on the Chief Mate and Masters levels.
Adjunct Faculty - Engineering
Mr Subimal Chakraborty
As Adjunct Faculty, Mr. Subimal Chakraborty will help the ADU further developing the learning process. His inputs will add great value to the ADU’s interaction with students and the permanent faculty. He has had a long and distinguished career with the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, of which 8 years he served as Principal Officer at the MMD, in Chennai and Kolkata. Mr. Chakraborty is a graduate Mechanical Engineer, with Extra First Class Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency (Motor) from the Department of Trade, U.K.
Mr Alok Mitra
As Adjunct Faculty, Mr. Alok Mitra will be an important member of the quality audit team at the ADU and will supervise the customization process of specific courses at various levels. Besides, Mr. Mitra will share his expertise across topics, with the students as needed. He has had a distinguished career in academia and has helped a number of maritime training institutes in building their curriculum to match the IMO mandated education and training standards. Mr. Alok Mitra is a graduate Electrical Engineer with Extra First Class Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency from the Department of Trade, U.K.
Mr. Sanjoy Chakrabarty
As Adjunct Faculty, Mr. Sanjoy Chakrabarty will be an important member of the team conducting weekly Live Q & A programs. He will be focusing his attention to MEO Class 2 and MEO Class 1 programs. Mr. Chakrabarty had a distinguished career at the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. Sailing remained his passion and he continued his sailing career with most modern fleets till 2014. Mr. Sanjoy Chakrabarty received his Extra First Class Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency from the Department of Trade, U.K. in 1981.
Mr Niladri Pal
As Adjunct Faculty, Mr. Pal will focus on bringing additional depth to the numerical content of the courses, as necessary, and will guide the students at various levels, in handling complex engineering theories and mathematical concepts. He will design the quizzes required for the purpose of addressing the examinations leading to the award of Certificates of Competency for Marine Engineering Officers. Mr. Niladri Pal is a graduate Naval Architect from the distinguished Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpore.
Mr Tamal Mukherjee
As Adjunct Faculty, Mr. Tamal Mukherjee will focus on the customization of the content and the quizzes for the purpose of adding depth to the learning process and will help the students get better prepared for internal tests conducted by ADU. Besides being a successful entrepreneur and a Chief Engineer, Mr. Mukherjee has a distinguished career in teaching including a long stint as a faculty member at the Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Kolkata. He is an alumnus of DMET and holds the First Class Certificate of Competency (Motor) from Ministry of Transport, Government of India.
Adjunct Faculty - Nautical
Capt. Hemadri Ray
As Adjunct Faculty, Capt. Hemadri Ray will focus on the customization of the content and the quizzes for the purpose of adding depth to the learning process and will help the students to get better prepared for the internal tests conducted by ADU. He is currently working as the Principal of the Bachelor of Nautical Science program at the Neotia Institute of Technology Science and Management. He is an alumnus of T. S. Rajendra and holds the Master FG Certificate of Competency from Ministry of Transport, Government of India.
Capt. Utpal Sengupta
As Adjunct Faculty, Capt. Utpal Sengupta will focus on auditing the content and will help the permanent faculty by developing additional content to strengthen the knowledge base of students. He has a distinguished career in academia and is currently a senior faculty at NITMAS. He is an alumnus of T. S. Rajendra and holds the Master FG Certificate of Competency from Ministry of Transport, Government of India.
Capt. Rod Short
Capt. Rod Short will focus on the operational content of the Chief Mate and Master’s program. He will be a part of the team addressing the doubts of the examinees through e-mail and live sessions. He is an academician at the core and had headed global maritime institutes of repute in the Asia Pacific region. Currently, he is the Managing Director of Australasian Maritime Education Services.
